The dance drama Tiangong Kaiwu is set to grace the Yangzhou Grand Canal Theatre from Oct 31 to Nov 1. Adapted from an encyclopedia on agriculture, artisanry, and industry compiled by Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) scientist Song Yingxing, the performance roots itself in choreography while integrating elements of film, video, and science. It pays homage to great labor creations and showcases a dazzling historical tapestry of scientific and technological achievements of the era.
The play Thunderstorm will be staged at the same theater on Nov 21. This breakthrough work marks the debut of Chinese dramatist Cao Yu, exploring human nature and critiquing society through the tragic fates of its characters.
