Over 200 hectares of lotuses are flourishing in Sheyanghu town, a village with a history of over 2,500 years, that lies along the shores of Sheyang Lake in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province.

Blue skies, white clouds, distant hills and lotus pools form an idyllic picture, with the flowers standing out in midsummer in Jiangsu province.

Sheyanghu town is known as the country's largest lotus root planting base and production and distribution center. A lotus-themed tourism festival is held there every year, inviting visitors to admire lotus blossoms and enjoy the rural scenery.

More than 180 varieties of lotuses have been introduced to the town's lotus park, attracting many tourists. In 2019, over 300,000 people visited the park, which greatly lifted the incomes of the villagers.

Last year, the local government spent over 13 million yuan ($1.86 million) on expanding and upgrading the lotus park. Visitors can enjoy better tourist services while learning about different kinds of lotus roots and seeds this summer.

Lotus flowers in Sheyanghu are expected to stay in bloom until September. Taking a boat on the lake is a good choice, enabling visitors to escape from the noisy urban atmosphere and experience true tranquility and serenity.
