The 2022 World Athletics Half Marathon Championships are will held in Yangzhou, East China's Jiangsu province in March, according to an announcement by Sebastian Co, president of World Athletics, on Nov 22 in Monaco.
The announcement came after a World Athletics council meeting. World Athletics, formerly known as IAAF, is the international governing body for half marathons.
Yangzhou will be the second Chinese city (after Nanning in 2010) to host the biannual 21.0975-kilometer race since it was first launched in 1992.
The city has gained significant experience in hosting half marathon races, as the Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half Marathon has been held every spring since 2006 and is currently the only World Athletics gold label half marathon race in China.
Wang Nan, vice-president of the Chinese Athletics Association, said that General Administration of Sports of China fully supports Yangzhou in hosting the 2022 world half marathon and will provide guidance and support for the event.
"We will work closely with Yangzhou to ensure the event's success," Wang added.
