A ceremony will be held in Yangzhou on Oct 3 to mark the 120th birth anniversary of veteran guqin player Zhang Zhiqian, local media reported.
As part of the ceremony, Zhang's students, along with many other guqin players, will stage a concert in Zhang’s memory.
Born in Yangzhou, East China's Jiang province, Zhang Ziqian (1899-1991) was a renowned guqin player and the first professional player of the seven-string zither in China.
As a professional guqin performer at the Guangling School, Zhang transcribed guqin pieces from ancient manuscripts with the Guangling style and his distinctive interpretations. His rendition of Longxiang Cao is considered one of his best interpretations, which led to the nickname Zhang Longxiang.
