A delegation from the Yangzhou Board Games Association visited Lao Cai province, Vietnam, in early April at the invitation of the Vietnam Chess Federation, aiming to strengthen people-to-people exchanges through chess and explore friendly cooperation between China and Vietnam.

The delegation attended the award ceremony of the Vietnamese National Chess Championship's individual competition, congratulating the organizers and praising the sport's popularity and competitive level in Vietnam. Both sides reviewed the history of chess exchanges between the two countries and discussed joint events, player visits, and youth training. Several cooperation agreements were reached.
After the ceremony, Yangzhou players played against the team from Lao Cai at a China-Vietnam chess exchange event. Both sides shared skills and formed friendships on and off the board.
The delegation also visited high-tech pharmaceutical companies in Lao Cai, where they learned about local technology, smart manufacturing, and green industry development.
Nguyen Van Binh, president of the Vietnam Chess Federation, said Yangzhou has a strong chess culture and many talented players. He called the visit an important milestone for chess exchanges between the two countries.
Wang Jirong, president of the Yangzhou Board Games Association, said the visit strengthened China-Vietnam chess exchanges and broadened views on cultural and technological cooperation.
Wang added that the association will continue to promote cross-border people-to-people chess exchanges and tell the story of Chinese chess culture. It will also support friendly ties through sports and culture, contributing to Yangzhou's people-to-people diplomacy and international cultural and sports development.
