The Yangzhou Puppet Research Institute presented a special performance of Chinese rod puppetry at the State Academic Central Puppet Theatre in Moscow, Russia on Sept 19, local time.

As an important unit of the XIII International Puppet Theatre Festival, it brought together 12 rod puppet classics. The lifelike puppets, with their intricate expressions and flexible movements, marveled Moscow audiences.
In a heartwarming gesture, the institute presented the theatre with creative cultural gifts — plush rod puppets themed after a children's play adaptation of Journey to the West, one of the great Chinese novels. After the performance, some audiences received Yangzhou lacquerware pendants as souvenirs.
"We are deeply honored to represent Chinese puppet art in Moscow and share the charm of this millennia-old intangible cultural heritage with Russian audiences. Both China and Russia are rich in cultural heritage, and we hope to further promote understanding and friendship between our peoples through puppetry, an international artistic language," said a representative from the institute.
