Two young actors from the Yangzhou Opera Institute of Yangzhou — Chen Zhiyue and Wang Yuan — delivered a spectacular opera performance to both Chinese and international guests at the gala performance for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025 in Tianjin on the evening of Aug 31.

For Chen and Wang, it was a deep honor and source of pride to perform on the SCO stage as opera practitioners. Bringing the essence of such a Chinese cultural legacy to international exchange is more than just a show; it is a testament to Chinese culture reaching the global stage.

To give the best performance possible, the two underwent nearly two months of intensive training, where they honed their skills through repetitive exercises and often found themselves drenched in sweat.

Chen felt excited every time she recalled the performance scenes. Nervous yet focused, she summoned the courage to throw her spear in time with the drumbeats, immersing herself in the show with the sole aim of presenting her best side.

The two performers expressed their commitment to preserving and passing down this traditional art, aiming to spark interest among a wider range of global audiences while enhancing cultural exchanges within SCO.
