Two pedestrian streets in Yangzhou were recently listed as candidates to become Jiangsu provincial high-end pedestrian streets, according to the Jiangsu provincial department of commerce.

The streets are Sanbadao Pedestrian Street and Dongguan Street.

Sanbadao Pedestrian Street, or Three Knives Street, situated in Shugang-Slender West Lake Scenic Area, is three kilometers in length and occupies a total space of 174,000 square meters.

In 2018, a total of 205 shops had been set up along the street, producing a combined revenue of over 500 million yuan  ($74.6 million), up 21.3 percent year on year.

The street is so called because it houses a number of restaurants, barber shops and pedicure shops, where craftsmen use three different knives.

Dongguan Street is an ancient alley in the center of Yangzhou and features two large gates on either end.

It is considered to be the best preserved commercial street among cities along China's Grand Canal.

With a history of more than 1,200 years, the street, 1,122 meters in length, is home to more than 50 well-preserved pieces of architecture from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911).

The street has over 240 shops, including several time-honored brands such as Sanhe Simei and Lv Yang Chun.
