Special painting skills capture Grand Canal vision

(chinadaily.com.cn)Updated: 2019-08-30

The engraving and printing technique, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, has brought back the ancient charms of the Grand Canal in Yangzhou.

The painting, 120-centimeters long and 24 cm wide, adopts a panoramic composition and exquisitely depicts the poetic scenery of Yangzhou.

It took three months for Li Jiangmin, the successor of the engraving and printing technique, to finish the work, which depicts the Grand Canal in a unique way. It has been donated to China's Grand Canal Museum.

Li said that the painting beautifully associates material and spiritual factors and adopts a fine and smooth technique using elegant inks.

There are numerous historical and cultural sites in the Yangzhou section of the canal and the scroll integrates the natural scenery and cultural attractions along the river in an artistic way, Li added.
