Yangzhou writer touches kids' lives in remote areas

(chinadaily.com.cn)Updated: 2019-08-29

From Sichuan province to Yunnan province, Liu Chunyang, a young writer from Yangzhou, Jiangsu province has been on a journey of voluntary teaching in rural schools.

It means something to touch those kids' lives by voluntary teaching, said Liu.

It was a life-enhancing one-year trip for the young writer, in which he imparted knowledge and inspired feelings of beauty in the kids. With bunches of flowers and well-organized outdoor classes, Liu not only gave lessons but also encouraged the young kids to have a good taste of the beauty of daily life.

Liu said that it was so impressive to spend a year with the kids who have lived in the remote mountains for generations. The only path outwards for them is to have a good education and work hard. The youths who have already made it and return for festivals, bringing vitality to their hometown, are the best prove of that.

Bearing this in his mind, he registered for another voluntary teaching task and set off once more on a life-changing journey in late August.

Liu's primary school, located in the mountains 2,600 meters above sea level, has good teaching and accommodation facilities, a result of donation projects.

After receiving systematic training in such matters as psychology and handicrafts, the new fourth-grade teacher is confident with his proficiency in class.

"Every time I teach my kids means that I have accomplished a self-teaching task already," said the young volunteer.
