A mesmerizing piano-violin duo concert, featuring Romanian virtuosos Stefan Doniga and Diana Jipa, captivated audiences at the Yangzhou Grand Canal Theater on the evening of Aug 17.

Invited to Yangzhou by Liviu Taranu, director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Beijing, the two artists, renowned for their artistic excellence and even holding a Guinness World Record, presented a rich repertoire ranging from Romanian masterpieces by Enescu and Porumbescu to beloved Chinese classics like Butterfly Lovers and Jasmine Flower, alongside vibrant European pieces.
The concert concluded with a brilliant rendition of the technically demanding Carmen Fantasy. The duo's virtuosity and emotional depth created a dialogue between Eastern and Western musical traditions, blending romantic lyricism with passionate intensity.
The concert added a new chapter to the long-standing cultural exchanges between China and Romania. Yangzhou also sees the performance as a bridge for deepening people-to-people ties and expanding cooperation with Romania across trade, arts, and youth exchanges.
When meeting with local officials before the concert, Taranu said he was deeply impressed by Yangzhou's cultural richness and scenic beauty. He also affirmed that the Romanian Cultural Institute in Beijing will continue to bring more high-quality cultural programs to Yangzhou, nurturing mutual cultural appreciation.
