The aquatic flower garden located beside Tuanjie Lake in Yangmiao town of Yangzhou's Hanjiang district, is an ideal place for visitors to admire irises and lotuses.

The iris is the national flower of France and takes its name from the Greek word for rainbow. It was popular among impressionist painters and was favored by the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh.

The garden has planted three kinds of irises: Japanese iris, evergreen iris and German iris. They bloom from April to May respectively and are in bloom for about a month.

Most of the blooming irises are among the 100 kinds of Japanese irises at the park, making this the best time to enjoy the beauty of these famous flowers.

The garden planted about 80 mu (5.3 hectares) of irises last year and they have grown well, garden staff members said. More kinds of irises will be planted in the garden to make it the largest iris breeding base in Jiangsu province.

In addition, 352 kinds of lotuses will begin to bloom in the garden in June, providing visitors with wonderful summer scenery until August.
