A free tour to get familiar with the city

(chinadaily.com.cn)Updated: 2019-09-27

Visitors to Yangzhou, a renowned tourist destination in East China's Jiangsu province, could receive a tour free on Sept 28.

The first 35 people to dial the registration hotline –18652516827 – will receive a free tour of scenic spots such as Tianning Temple and the Memorial of Shi Kefa. The tour will include a senior national-level tour guide.

Tianning Temple

Tianning Temple was originally built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420). The existing structures are the remains of the restoration which took place during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Tianning temple served as the imperial residence in Yangzhou when the emperor embarked on his southern tour. It is also one of the earliest Buddhist temples in Yangzhou, and has witnessed the city's ups and downs over the centuries.

Shi Kefa Memorial

The Shi Kefa Memorial and the nearby temple were erected to honor Shi Kefa, a Ming general who refused to surrender the city to Qing rulers in 1645.

Now the place serves as a base of patriotic education.
