Dozen adorned boats to parade along Grand Canal

(chinadaily.com.cn)Updated: 2019-09-25

A parade of 12 adorned boats, named after cities along the Grand Canal, is set to take place soon in the city of Yangzhou in eastern Jiangsu province, according to the organizers.

The parade -- on the sidelines of the 2019 World Canal Cities Forum taking place on Sept 26 to Oct 6 -- comes as part of city's series of events being staged to mark the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The boats are currently being made at the pier near Wenfeng temple in the city.

A boat will be named after Yangzhou, a renowned historical and cultural city with a history of more than 2,500 years along the Grand Canal. It will feature depictions of the city's landmarks, including the Slender West Lake.

Another two boats will be named New Era and World Canal, respectively.

One will be shaped like an aircraft carrier and feature designs influenced by the national anthem, and other stirring images, to demonstrate the accomplishments made by the nation over the past 70 decade. The other vessel, meanwhile, will feature design motifs such as the landmarks of cities along canals worldwide.

After completion, the 12 boats are set to be linked to form an impressive chain, creating a magnificent view for local residents as well as visitors to the city.
