The 45th World Skills Competition is set to open in Kazan, Russia on Aug 22 and Wu Jinqing, a 20-year-old carpenter from Yangzhou, Jiangsu province will make his dream cabinet there.

The biennial professional skills competition, the world's largest and most influential event, has been dubbed the "world skills Olympics". This year's edition will gather 1,355 participants from 69 countries. The Chinese delegation will consist of 63 candidates ready to demonstrate their techniques of craftsmanship.

Wu, ranked No 1 in national tryouts last June, and will take on the challenge of finishing a wooden cabinet in 22 hours over four days.

"One cabinet with over 100 rated points should be completed in 22 hours within four days, during which I only have 15 minutes to look at the drawing before the race," said Wu. "My training day after day only aims to keep the 100 odd rated points in my mind. Each joint of the cabinet should match exactly."

Wu's team has invented new piece of equipment – a bench clamp to make the cabinet's joints match perfectly -- to make its debut in Kazan.
