The former residence of Wang Lumen, a salt merchant of Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, will reopen to the public with a new Grand Canal salt merchant cultural exhibition hall in early June this year.

The mansion was built during the reign of Emperor Guangxu (1871-1908) in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) with a construction area of over 1,700 square meters. It is an important source of material for studying the salt merchant culture in Yangzhou.

According to its designer, the exhibition hall was built with five functions: themed displays, ancient building protection, long-term operations, cultural inheritance and tourism development.

Visitors will learn about the salt merchant culture through changing scenes and interactive experiences.
