Yangzhou to hold Grand Canal cultural relics exhibition

To celebrate the 5th year of the Grand Canal, the longest artificial waterway in the world, being inscribed on the World Heritage list, the first Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Expo will be held in Yangzhou, East China's Jiangsu province on Apr 26.

As an important part of the expo, a special exhibition of the cultural relics from cities along the Grand Canal will be held at the Yangzhou Museum.

The exhibition, integrating exhibits and multimedia displays, will present audiences with the history, present status and future trend of the Grand Canal.

According to Zhang Li, director of Yangzhou Museum exhibition department, 257 pieces (sets) of cultural relics have been selected after more than two months of preparation.

At present, professionals are choosing these cultural relics in terms of region, type and quality. It is expected that 240 pieces (sets) of high-quality cultural relics will be displayed at the exhibition.

News of the exhibition has been received warmly by many cities along the canal.

Cultural relics from museums and institutes including the Capital Museum, Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Luoyang City Cultural Relic and Archaeology Research Institute in Henan province, and Suzhou Museum in Anhui province will be showcased at the exhibition.
