Boasting a high aesthetic value and the longest history among all the classical gardens in China, the Geyuan Garden is a well-preserved traditional garden that was renovated and expanded by salt merchant Huang Zhiyun in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Huang based his work on “Shouzhi Garden”, built by a wealthy Yangzhou resident during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Its design features a delicate arrangement of bamboo and stones.

Shi Kefa Ancestral Tomb, also known as Shi Kefa Memorial, was built in the 33rd year during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1768), to commemorate the famous general in the Anti-Manchu war in the late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It was destroyed in war in the reign of Emperor Xianfeng and rebuilt in the 9th year during the reign of Emperor Tongzhi (1870). In 1956, it was listed among cultural relic preservation units in Jiangsu. Now it is a provincial-level education base for patriotism. In 1962, Zhu De, former chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, inscribed the sign of the memorial.
