The China Quyi Peony Awards took place in Yangzhou on Oct 15, giving out a total of 20 prizes covering 16 types of quyi.

Quyi is a traditional Chinese art form that includes ballad singing, comic dialogues, and clapper talk.

The China Quyi Peony Awards, as a national-level professional award, is organized every two years and recognizes excellence in the art.

Famous quyi performers such as Jiang Kun, Feng Gong and Gong Hanlin, along with newcomers including Jia Bing and Ji Mingliang performed after the awarding ceremony, staging different forms of quyi for the audience.

Xia Xinmin, acting Mayor of Yangzhou, said it was a great pleasure for Yangzhou to hold this top-level event.

"It has not only provided a good opportunity for Yangzhou citizens to enjoy a cultural feast, but it also offered a precious platform for Yangzhou cultural circles to learn from others", Xia said.

Zhang Jianhua, chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, said the awarding ceremony has been held in Jiangsu since 2006 and has gained national recognition. Jiangsu will strive to better organize the event and develop quyi in the future, he added.
